“A Light Still Burns”
Last week we were privileged to hear from Michael Scott as part of the launch of his new book, A Light Still Burns: Israel and the Values Worth Defending.
Michael regaled the audience with stories from his 30+ years in the Australian Army (retiring as a Colonel) and his 2-year stint at the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation, based in Jerusalem.
He talked passionately about what moral courage looks like in today's climate, why he founded his 2023 Foundation and how he firmly believes Israel is on the frontlines of Western democratic civilisation.
Michael peppered his talk with moments of levity and plenty of Hebrew and Yiddish he's picked up along his journey, much to the audience's delight.
Michael is a man of conviction, courage and genuine friendship. We have no doubt his passion and clarity of purpose will inspire other allies to follow suit.
As we bring in the celebration of Chanukah on Sunday night, we are reminded that even in challenging times, light endures. Michael’s message, and indeed his book A Light Still Burns, beautifully echo this timeless truth: that our collective light continues to shine, giving strength, hope and resilience to our community.
With that we wish you all a Shabbat Shalom and Chanukah Sameach.
