COSV – A Zionism Victoria Affiliate

Council of Orthodox Synagogues of Victoria represents and supports Orthodox Jewish congregations across Victoria, providing community services, infrastructure and religious‑life coordination for synagogues.

What they do

  • Serve as the umbrella body and central lay authority for Orthodox synagogues in Victoria — representing congregations, coordinating communal infrastructure and liaising with rabbinic leadership.

  • Administer and support key communal services including the regional eruv, representation on the religious court (beth din), community services, outreach, and educational‑support for member synagogues.

  • Facilitate collaboration among synagogues on shared issues — from governance support, communal security and crisis response to religious standards and community‑wide initiatives.

Why Zionism Victoria Values the COSV

COSV plays a vital backbone role for Orthodox Jewish life in Victoria — by uniting synagogues under one coordinating body, they ensure religious standards, communal infrastructure and support services are maintained broadly and consistently. Their work helps sustain Jewish continuity across many communities, supports communal resilience, and enables synagogues (big or small) to benefit from shared resources and advocacy. For Zionism Victoria, partnering with COSV means endorsing strong communal cohesion, robust infrastructure and a united Orthodox presence across the state.
