The Olympics and Israeli Society: What Can We Learn?

Tuesday August 10, 2021

Already, Tokyo 2020 stands as Israel’s most successful Olympic Games. But more than just success on the field of athletics, the Olympics can teach us a lot about Israeli society.

A Ukrainian Oleh, forced to drop out of school unable to cope with Hebrew, but who’s gold medal winning performance paused an Israeli cabinet meeting. A Minister for Sports who’s promised grants to any sports that can achieve international results. A baseball team composed entirely of American Jews. An Olympic delegation with no Arab or religious athletes.

Join us as Sefi Shalam and Motty Goodman unpack Israel’s great performance at the Olympics and what this performance can tell us about Israeli society.
