Our third Talking About Israel session, entitled ‘Narratives of Palestinian Nationalism’ focused on the evolution of Palestinian national identity, the history of the Balfour Declaration, the Hashemite Kingdom, British policies, the idea of the Nakba, as well as leadership today and modern directions.
The session was facilitated by Dr Bren Carlill, the Director of Public Affairs at the Zionist Federation of Australia.
Bren has a comprehensive history of working in the field of international relations, having previously worked at the Australian Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He’s also worked as a policy analyst at the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, and as a Foreign Press Liaison at Palestinian Media Watch.
Bren also holds a PHD in history and international relations from the University of Melbourne, as well as a BA in international relations from the University of South Australia.
