On Tuesday, 26th April, Glen Eira Council is due to vote on whether to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Working Definition of Antisemitism.
However, even though the IHRA definition is supported by all mainstream Jewish community organisations both here and overseas, and even though numerous countries including Australia, as well as NGOs, international organisations and academic institutions have adopted it, council officers – swayed by organisations highly critical of Israel – are recommending the adoption be rejected.
This is despite Glen Eira being home to the largest Jewish community in Australia and despite groups such as AUJS, who are on the frontline of combating antisemitism on campus, insisting that adoption of the definition helps protect Jewish students from prejudice, discrimination and abuse.
With the vote on Tuesday, time is of the essence. Please sign and share the petition urging Glen Eira Council to stand with the Jewish community by adopting the IHRA definition.
