Deadline extended…Still time to be our Yom Ha’atzmaut star!
The youth talent competition “Kochav Nolad” (A Star is Born) to discover Melbourne’s newest Yom Ha’atzmaut star has just been extended to allow for all interested budding young stars to get their entries in.
The deadline for video auditions is Friday March 11. An open audition will be held on Monday March 21 from 5.00 to 7.00pm for those who prefer to showcase their talent live.
The “Kochav Nolad” competition will showcase as part of the Zionist Council’s new updated format for Yom Ha’atzmaut 2011 celebrations – mark the date in your calendars for major events on May 9, 2011, first at the iconic and fun-filled Luna Park and then at St Kilda Town Hall for a gala show.
Once finalists have been chosen Yom Ha’atzmaut music director Adam Starr will mentor them and support in choosing their finale performance.
The Kochav Nolad final will take place at the Yom Ha’atzmaut family carnival at Luna Park in front of the Melbourne Jewish community where in excess of 2,500 people are expected to attend.
The judging panel will be made up of well known local music and dance personalities Troy Sussman, Bram Presser and Kim Factor.
All 3 are energized at the prospect of being involved in the competition to discover untapped talent within Melbourne’s Jewish youth.
Kim Factor, dancer and principal of the local Kim Factor School of Dance says “We have exceptional talent in our community. I am looking forward to seeing our young stars being given this opportunity to shine!”
Bram Presser, who was involved in professional recording and touring with his band Yidcore, as well as performing at past Yom Ha’atzmaut concerts, says “I’m really excited to see our brightest young stars in action. We have an amazingly talented community and, mark my words, some of the names you will see at this competition you will see again in the future on record charts, on tv and movie screens, even on Broadway.”
Troy Sussman, a veteran of the musical theatre world and Yom Ha’atzmaut concerts says, “I am really excited to see what Melbourne has to offer in the way of up and coming entertainment. I am looking for passion, understanding of the songs and good technique.”
Video auditions for the Kochav Nolad youth talent competition will be accepted until March 11, 2011.
A live, open audition will be held in the auditorium of the Beth Weizmann Community Centre on Monday March 21, from 5.00 to 7.00 pm.
