Changing of the guard at the ZCV: honouring an outstanding outgoing president

The Zionist Council of Victoria’s Annual Assembly traditionally reviews the year that was for Zionism in our community and looks towards the future. This year’s Assembly on Wednesday evening November 3 will be particularly symbolic and mark a new era in leadership when Dr Danny Lamm will step down as president after an unprecedented 8 years of leadership.

Dr Lamm has led the Zionist Council through an intensely active period; quite possibly it’s most active: hundreds of events including local and Israeli guest speakers from a myriad of political backgrounds, debates, community rallies, public meetings, boardroom lunches, book launches, cocktail events, politicians’ briefings, concerts, festivals and commemorations.

Each and every event has been to promote Israel positively to our community and the general public.
Undoubtedly it is Danny Lamm’s professional and forward-thinking leadership that has seen the Zionist Council go from strength to strength and maintain its standing amongst leading Jewish community organisations.

On the eve of concluding his service to the ZCV, Lamm has reflected on the past 8 years in a candid interview which can be read here.

More than 250 people are expected to attend the Assembly including representatives of the ZCV’s 51 affiliate organizations, local, state and federal parliamentarians and key supporters of the ZCV.
Israeli Ambassador to Australia Yuval Rotem will be in attendance and address the Assembly.
Guest speakers Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O’Connor will represent the Prime Minister and Christopher Pyne will represent the Leader of the Opposition.

In addition, state MP James Merlino Minister for Police, Corrections, Sport, Recreation, Youth Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs will speak to the Assembly.

The Jerusalem Prize will be awarded to Leon Kempler OAM for his tireless efforts and tremendous success as National and Victorian Chairman of Australia’s pre-eminent international Chamber of Commerce and one of the country’s most prestigious and active national business organisations, the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC), a role he has held since 1989.

The ZCV will welcome new member Merkaz-Masorti Australasia as its 52nd affiliate.

Apart from electing a new President, the ZCV executive, affiliates and their delegates will elect new vice presidents and portfolio chairs for positions of Education and Culture, Trade and Investment and Public Relations.

The ZCV’s new President will give closing remarks.

The community is invited to the ZCV’s Annual Assembly honouring Dr Danny Lamm’s 8-year term as president and his outstanding contribution to Zionism and the community.
Wednesday evening November 3 at Beth Weizmann Community Centre – 306 Hawthorn Road Caulfield South. Registration begins at 7pm and the Annual Assembly will begin at 7.45pm (sharp).
