Press Release – 3 September 2009

Auditions for Melbourne’s largest community event Yom Ha’atzmaut extended

Jewish musical talent was in abundance earlier this month when the Zionist Council of Victoria held auditions for solo singers and ensembles for the 2010 Yom Ha’atzmaut community concert on Monday April 19, 2010 at the Arts Centre’s Hamer Hall. So much so that concert producer Ginette Searle and musical director Adam Starr have decided to extend the chance to audition until the end of September.

“The auditions were fantastic with more than 30 new faces, all different ages wanting to entertain our community. There is a tremendous amount of talent in our own backyard and they are enthusiastic and passionate performers” said Starr.

“Due to more singers approaching us than we had a chance to audition in person we will be accepting video auditions until September 30” Searle updated.

Last year’s Yom Ha’atzmaut “Israeliana” Community Concert saw the largest ever cast assembled to celebrate Israel’s 61st birthday and the 2010 promises to be just as impressive an event.

Preparations have already begun for the Concert with the show’s core creative team made up of Starr, Searle, director Deborah Leiser-Moore, production manager Michael Jankie and audio visual producer/dance choreographer Guy Dvir-Ovadia getting together a range of people who work both in and outside of the community, from different ages groups and backgrounds to brainstorm ideas.

ZCV executive director Ginette Searle also updated that the annual process to choose songs for the concert will soon be released publicly. “As every year, we encourage as many people as possible to take part in the musical survey. More details will be available later this month” she said.
