Expert Israel Advocacy trainer David Olesker to visit Melbourne
A leader in the challenging world of hasbara and stating Israel’s case, David Olesker, will be in Melbourne as a guest of the State Zionist Council of Victoria on September 1.
David Olesker is the Director of JCCAT, the Jerusalem Centre for Communications and Advocacy Training, an independent organization providing high quality training in communications and Israel advocacy skills.
It has been said that he brings an engaging mix of humour and activism to his presentations which are not only immensely useful, but entertaining. “Even the most jaded of urbanites will find him charming and well-informed” noted a community leader who hosted him in the United States.
Born in the UK, David Olesker made Aliyah in 1982. After moving to Israel, he worked with the World Zionist Organization’s Educational Resource Centre at Kiryat Moriah, Jerusalem for six years where he helped pioneer the application of informal education techniques to training advocates for Israel.
In 1989, he founded JCCAT in an effort to bring these techniques to a wider audience. Almost 20 years later, JCCAT continues to bring the latest skills to supporters of Israel around the world.
As an expert Israel advocacy trainer, David Olesker finds himself in constant demand both in Israel and all over the world. He travels frequently to the US, Canada and other countries, teaching Israel advocacy skills to community activists and students.
He has worked with Israel’s diplomats, emissaries of the World Zionist Organization and Jewish Agency, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Although only here for a day, David Olesker schedule will be jam-packed as he meets with a large segment of the community, including community leaders, Jewish Day school students and also presents a public forum for community members interested in honing their advocacy skills.
State Zionist Council of Victoria President, Dr Danny Lamm said of the upcoming visit “David Olesker will present the practical techniques needed to communicate an affirmative image for Israel and we look forward to his visit. With the SZC’s increasing involvement in Israel advocacy within our own community and in our interaction with the broader community, this will be a unique chance to learn from a professional”.
David Olesker’s visit will culminate in a practical and specialized advocacy training workshop for the public at Beth Weizmann Community Centre.
